Atopic Dermatitis: a Short Summary
Hyperpigmentation disorders are diverse and treatment success is highly variable. However it is important to note that the more superficial the pigmentation is, the better the response to treatment is likely to be high. Here below is a proposed skin lightening agent: lignin peroxidase
- It is derived from a fungus: phanerochaete chrysosporium
- It was studied in different ways:
- comparison to hydroquinone 2%* ! The study concerned 12 patients and it was shown to be 17 times more effective than hydroquinone.
- comparison to baseline with analysis of changes with a colorimeter.
Comments
- *One part of the study consists of comparing lignin peroxidase to 2% hydroquinone (HQ):
- It is widely accepted by clinicians that 2% HQ has very little effects. So mentioning an efficacy more potent than hydroquinone requires the mentioning of this very small concentration.
- Even though HQ over 2% is not readily available, HQ over 2% can be prescribed anywhere, even in Europe where preparations with higher concentrations can be compounded by pharmacists.
