- For androgenetic alopecia, topical treatment is the mainstay and minoxidil is cumbersone to apply. Of all the combinations, topical 5% minoxidil in foam form seems to be the most efficient product (1).
- Systemic treatments consisting of cyproterone acetate, spironolactone and finasteride are either controversial and are not always effective.
- In this prospective study (2) over 4 years of 101 women with androgenetic alopecia (and no hormonal androgenism) were included. Results show around 30% improvement (good patient satisfaction, hepatic toxicity: elevation of transaminases in 4% of patients treated with the high dose, no side effects at lower doses).
