Treatment of Solar Lentigines in Caucasians (For Professionals)
About lentigo solaris (solar lentigo, lentigines):
- Occurs in sun exposed areas typically in individuals aged 50 and over
- Histologically, pigmentation is located in the epidermis, in the basal layer. (Stratum basale)
- It is caused by an increased number of melanocytes who have a normal amount of melanin
Treatment options include:
- cryotherapy
- chemical peels
Solar lentigines need to be distinguished from solar hyperpigmentation :
- It occurs in light skinned individuals
- It is most common after 50 years old
- It is difficult to treat
