Richard Nixon and Hyperhidrosis

• Richard Nixon (1913-1994) served as the President of the United States from 1969 to 1974, when he resigned because of the Watergate scandal.
• It is interesting to see that most people see him as a tense figure in debates, especially the one he had against Kennedy in 1960 (which he lost): in the video above you see him continual wiping his face and sweating around the mouth.
• Nevertheless sweating couldn’t be seen in his numerous speeches on the radio.

• In fact, he suffered from hyperhidrosis which is characterized by profuse sweating. It was interpreted by many as him losing his nerve in terms of body language.
• In Nixon’s mind, this could have created embarrassment and an impression of being misunderstood by others.
